We Love All Things Rackets

Established in 2006, we started Active Away with the vision of uniting people through a shared common interest – Rackets. We wanted to build a community of people who could share their passion for our brilliant sports.

Joshua Thompson

Managing Director

Josh has been with Active Away since 2014. He’s passionate about fitness and tennis, often found in his home office in Doncaster, on the court, or hitting the gym!

Steve founded Active Away in 2006 after 9 years with David Lloyd Leisure. Passionate about tennis and wellbeing, he's usually found on the court or in the gym!

Director of Tennis

Matt became Active Away's Director of Tennis in 2010 after his time with the LTA. He’s passionate about tennis and snowboarding—catch him on the court or the slopes!

Head of School Tours

George joined the Active Away family in 2014, leading his first group at Sani Beach. He came on board full-time in 2023, bringing a wealth of experience in adult coaching.

Our History

2006

Humble Beginnings

Active Away founder Steven Davies started the business in 2006. The idea behind Active Away came from numerous requests to offer tennis trips abroad as a coach! A fun fact - the first name for Active Away was 'Tailored Tours.'

2016

Peter Jones Invests

Following an extensive day in the Dragons' lair - Matt Allen and Steve Davies secured investment from their preferred Dragon - Peter Jones. You can see the full BBC aired pitch on our website - it's a seriously incredible pitch

2023

Jamie Murray Joins

Jamie Murray joined the Active Away family to become the brand ambassador in 2023. A 7 time grand slam and Davis Cup winner, it's an honour to have Jamie designing the programme for our tennis events.
